In wider remarks, Logan said:
"China is a reality, and one that presents opportunities and many new questions for us in the UK. So even when the previous government, or indeed politicians, refused to ‘engage’ with China by speaking with angry opposition, the reality of the situation is that businesses, universities and students continued to engage daily and with consistent intensity. Labour, under Starmer, is both right and sensible to strike a balance in how we approach China."
On US-China competition he went on to say:
"The UK was the world’s preeminent empire in recent memory. The US has ruled the roost for nearing a century. With the re-emergence of China, we in the UK are better placed than any other nation to impart wisdom from what we’ve got right when conducting great power relations, and the mistakes that we made along the way. The three of us – US, China and UK – should be doing more together. What that looks like in practice I leave to the think tanks and current policymakers! I’m in the market for ideas."
