Princess Takamado has a strong connection with the UK
Following on from an audience with Japan’s Emperor Naruhito during the official visit in June 2024, Logan was honoured to meet with Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado in Tokyo, Japan.
Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado has indeed a very long and deep connection to the United Kingdom. Princess Takamado studied Chinese and then archaeology and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge 1972-5.
In addition to her public duties, Princess Takamado has long been a visiting professor at the Osaka University of Arts. She, together with the late Prince, is a renowned collector and expert on “netsuke” and part of their large collection is housed in the Tokyo National Museum.
In February, 2019 Her Imperial Highness travelled to the United Kingdom in order to give the Founders’ Memorial Lecture at Girton College, Cambridge, as it celebrated the 150th year of its foundation.

Logan has enjoyed an extensive career in politics, diplomacy and business, and having met with Her Imperial Highness, he noted:
“The UK and Japan share many things in common, and many would argue non more important than our respective royal families, upholding tradition and partnership for a very long time”.
Mr Logan went on to say:
“The members of the Cambridge Oxford society had an incredible evening, thanks to Tim, the team, and of course the Mistress of Girton College”.
